18" x 24" Pastel on Paper.  Books have two sides to them, and one page has a different theme as the next.  Since moving to Seattle I have made reading an importnat layer to my practice.  My sensitivity to dividing the canvas as a book and the brain processes of anticpation of reading the next page- the reward of processing the images and thoughts in my head- are intrinsicly rewarding.  My canvases started to want to divide in two, and describe the interior process of hoe the story is going to unfold.  I am also influenced by medieval books where the borders of the pages were elaborately decorated, like the Book of Kells.  Many of my family fled Ireland for America, so this makes the idea of book illistration even more powerful.  However, I am describing an inspiring aspect of reading.
